John Carpenter has updated his classic Halloween theme for the upcoming revival’s soundtrack and iconic score is now spookier than ever.
Composed by Carpenter, his son Cody, and Daniel Davies, the new film’s main theme, appropriately titled “The Shape Returns” features a more modern take on the horror theme. The track is available to stream exactly one full month before the film and soundtrack’s release on October 19.

While retaining the familiar, piano-driven tune, the new theme boasts a more percussive rhythm and pronounced synth overlays bringing the iconic score startlingly into the 21st century without compromising its tension-building undertones.

Carpenter, who also serves as an executive producer on the upcoming slasher movie, composes the film’s entire soundtrack with Cody Carpenter and Davies. Carpenter had previously composed the soundtrack for the 1978 original film as well as 1981’s Halloween II and 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch; each sequel featuring its own version of iconic theme.

Debuting October 19, the latest Halloween is directed by David Gordon Green from a script written with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak with Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney sharing the role of masked killer Michael Myers. The film is executive produced and scored by original filmmaker John Carpenter.
